Below is a collection of different categories of my work. Over the last few years, I’ve been so lucky to be able to make prints, paintings, videos, and much more. I love all the various forms of art I’ve been able to create, and I’m very excited to share that with you. I hope you enjoy!
For years, I was the designated videographer for my sister’s A Capella group, the NYU Cleftomaniacs, and from there, I’ve also started filming and editing videos for a host of different occasions - my sister’s original songs with her band Rebecca & the City, my school’s division of Her Campus, and for my classes as well.
This song is written and performed by my sister, Rebecca McCarthy. I filmed and edited this video and combined the main angle with some b-roll to add interest and ambiance.
An original song also by my sister, I filmed and edited this video with the goal of creating a sense of nostalgia.
This video, the song also by my sister, is pretty unedited and raw, as I wanted it to feel a little more relaxed.
This video was filmed and edited by me for the NYU Cleftomaniacs, as I’ve filmed about 50 videos just like this for the group over the years.
This video is a promotional video for my school’s chapter of Her Campus, a new media platform that works to amplify unheard voices. I filmed and edited the video to show the highlights of living in New York City, going to The New School, and being a part of Her Campus.
This is a stop motion that was a collaboration for a class I took called “Time.” I edited the video together, did the voice over, and participated in the construction and execution of the piece being photographed.
When I was much younger, my mom and I would take art supplies and paint while we were at the beach for 2 weeks in Cape May, New Jersey. It was the first art that I connected with, as I didn’t really need to be a great artist to enjoy it and make a decent product. From there, my love for it has grown as I gained more skills in the arts. Here are some of my pieces.
This painting is inspired by my family’s trip to Italy, and is depicting the Italian countryside. Acrylic on wood.
This collection of paintings are inspired from drawings I did in Cape May, New Jersey in the summer. They are all acrylic on canvas.
I am very inspired by the night time, as that is when I feel most creative, and it is the hardest light to capture on a camera. Most of the time, I don’t feel the need to paint something I can just photograph, but the night time does not photograph as beautifully as it appears with the naked eye. I aimed to capture that beautiful light I am so inspired by in this piece (and many other). Acrylic on canvas.
This piece is my replication of a self portrait by Frida Kahlo. This was a class assignment and took me about 60 hours. Acrylic on drawing paper.
This piece is inspired, again, by my family trip to Italy. In Amalfi, we stayed on a lemon orchard and I loved the imagery in the beautiful gardens. Acrylic on wood.
At home, there is a little town I like to drive through where there are some farms with bulls and cows. When it’s foggy, my sister always says it looks like Ireland with all the rolling hills. I really wanted to replicate that free feeling when I really feel at home. Acrylic on canvas.
My mom collects tiles and hangs them all around my kitchen. When we go on trips, she is always enamored with the tiles she sees, and I wanted to make her a painting of tiles. Acrylic on canvas.
This piece is an image of my sister surrounded by flowers. Acrylic on canvas paper.
This piece is a portrait of the singer Paul Klein from the band LANY. Acrylic on canvas.
This piece is an image of a firework from the Fourth of July. Acrylic on canvas paper.
These pieces are me trying my hand at abstract, which is not my strong suit. Both are acrylic on wood.
Ever since freshman year of high school, I’ve been obsessed with makeup. I love to experiment with makeup, and below are some of the looks I’ve created. Find more looks on my instagram.
In high school, I took my first real art class, where I learned the basics of drawing. Since then, I’ve been sketching and drawing people and landscapes whenever I can.

I went to a cafe in London and decided to spend an hour drawing whatever was in front of me, including this water jug with mint and lemon inside.
I had to draw my spirit animal in my drawing class in the first year of college. I decided on a baby giraffe, since they’re pretty silly but quick learners.
I drew this self portrait in junior year of high school at the end of my first art class. We had to draw self portraits at the start and at the end of the class to show the improvement. Needless to say, the improvement was exponential.
I drew these images whilst sitting in a cafe in London.
This drawing is my sister singing.
This drawing is also from Cape May, New Jersey.

Over the years, I’ve designed many different sorts of images. All of the images below were created on Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator.
This image is a photoshop mixture of different types of big cats overlaying a drawing I created of a mountain lion. I then used different crystals to make the throne and the crown.
I drew the figure of a robot and then used images of tin to create the silver body. I then photoshopped iterations of the figure into this Monet painting to add an odd modernity.
For an assignment, I had to represent myself visually. I decided to dissect my personality by dividing into 3: the youthful Melanie, the drag queen Melanie, and the mothering Melanie. I photographed the different looks and Photoshopped them into one frame.
For a school play, I created the font on the word Macbeth and the numbers on the right of the figure from photoshopping elements of many fonts into one.
I’ve learned so many techniques in my years at art school, and it’s been even more interesting to overlap the different art practices I’ve learned.
I created this multi media piece for a zine by The B-Sides, a newsletter and online community centered around pop music. I began by using this image of Ariana Grande and making a xerox photo transfer of it. I scanned that image and began to overlay it on select parts of the original image. I then created this surreal, dreamscape around Grande’s figure.
This piece, also crafted for the B-Sides Zine, combines a xerox photo transfer of an image of my sister with some bright colors in the background in select areas.
This image, for the B-Sides zine, combines a xerox photo transfer of Cardi B and her sister Hennessy with the original image and a sky background. It takes on an Addams family quality.
This image was created for the B-Sides Zine. My sister and I created a playlist inspired by the elements (water, fire, earth, and air). I then put a sunset in the background and added hand drawn images of the elements indicating their designated sections.
From a linoleum tile I carved for a relief print, I ended up being able to press it into clay and peeling it back to create the shape of the piece. I ended up making 3 of these tiles and applying alternate colors of glaze on top.
Here are the tiles in my mom’s kitchen after being fired in the kiln.
For a friend’s birthday, I created a xerox photo transfer of an image of him in a bathtub and added water color on top.
For a class, I had to create a task for strangers by laying out guidelines to create a poem with words I provided for them. My guidelines were for them to glue words onto my face after having applied avant garde makeup.
This is an image of a makeup look I did with words strangers glued on top.

I had painted my wallet for class, and then I had to photoshop the painting into a background, so I decided to show that it had been lost in the streets of New York.
For a project, I interpreted my own version of a Frida Kahlo painting by drawing the foliage and flowers she uses frequently in her pieces on my face with makeup and then photoshopping the background of the painting I was inspired by into the photo.
For this piece, I was given by someone who I now realized to be a monster. Each time I saw it after I made this realization, I contemplated the question, “can you still appreciate someone’s art is they’re a monster?” My answer was that you cannot. I then needed to either throw it out, paint over it, or change it. I decided to destroy it for cathartic reasons, which felt amazing. This is the footage.
Some of the basic design skills, written work, graphics, and collaborative pieces I’ve created at school are below.
Although not my most popular form of expression, I really enjoy writing and creating written pieces in my free time.
These works don’t particularly fall in any of the other categories, but are still pieces I am very proud of.
I love to create custom laptop cases for friends and family. This one was for my sister and was my replication of Starry Night by Van Gogh with her name in the wind. I made this with just a set of Sharpies.
Made for my mom from Sharpies, this is a Modigliani replication for her laptop case with her name signed into it as the artist signature.
These are a set of phone cases I made with Sharpies from paintings by Picasso, Matisse, and Van Gogh respectively.

I took a fashion class in my first year of college where I designed and assembled this ensemble (which includes the dressing jacket). It is inspired by Raf Simons’ first collection for Dior.
The skirt of the dress is hand embroidered with silk chiffon.
The styling was also inspired by the 2012 Dior Couture Fall Collection.
